Live free and unencumbered from food regret and body shame
Live Free and unencumbered from food regret and body shame?

Confidence in one’s own worth is freeing.

It is feeling seen, heard, loved, appreciated, and respected.

A number on the scale does not determine how much respect should be given, or earn a right to be seen, heard, and loved, that is measuring incorrectly. And we’re going to change that starting now! I am here to say that…

You are worthy
Struggling to hear it? You are not alone, my dear.

I am not here to make it wrong for feeling that way.

In fact, I don’t think it is crazy or silly at all. Being caught up in a diet-obsessed culture that talks about a woman’s weight like it is the currency of her worth can mess with your mind.

Maybe growing up you had a parent who worried about your weight and out of fear took you along on the diet train with them. They worried about your happiness and didn’t want you to be judged – their hearts were in the right place.

But the message received was that thin was the only way to be happy.

Maybe you have reached that goal size a few times only to realize you didn’t feel enlightened, alive, or worthy, after all.

I know you’ve been struggling with food for a long time. Years. And years.

You’ve tried everything to lose weight, even praying that peace and happiness would be discovered in a size 4 pair of jeans.

The different diet books on your shelf (or in your Kindle) could fill a library.

The supplements, powders, potions and contraptions you’ve put your hopes and dreams in are littered throughout your house…under the bed, at the bottom of a drawer, stuffed in the back of a cabinet…

And you feel like your hope of ever breaking free from food obsession is resting right alongside those forgotten, failed methods.

Your quest for happiness, fulfillment, and value by shrinking to a smaller self has only lead to missing out on relationships, promotions, and let’s be honest…life.

Turning down invitations because you didn’t want people to see how big you were.

Starving yourself hoping to be a certain size for an event in order to have a good time.

Crying in your closet getting dressed because nothing fits and you don’t want to buy a bigger size.

Not speaking up at a meeting because you don’t want to be noticed until you lose weight.

Walking with your shoulders hunched down trying not to draw attention to yourself.

Hiding. Shrinking. Hoping to be smaller.

Except the opposite happens. We emotionally eat more. We gain more weight. We are in pain and it shows on the outside.

I am not here to make you wrong for feeling that way.

You CAN feel worthy, beautiful, and healthy in your own body – right now!

You have searched the outside world for answers but like Dorothy with the ruby slippers the answer was always inside of you!

We have the equation wrong.

We can’t shame and belittle ourselves to a smaller size.

When you feel worthy, you give yourself attention, respect, and love.

Unhealthy habits and weight that keeps us hidden and protected can start to disappear.

I experienced first-hand how binging, purging, restricting and even just plain old chronic dieting (which, let’s face it, the majority of women seem to do) could wreak havoc on my friends’ ability to enjoy life.

Then when I chose to study nutrition, I realized that I gained the most respect from peers and colleagues when I followed what I considered to be ridiculously restrictive practices. As long as I got the egg white omelettes, cooked dry, hold the potatoes – THEN and only then could I be considered an authority on nutrition. Yet I saw more and more how unhealthy this seemingly “healthy” behavior was.

And I decided that I was not going to participate in that dysfunction! Instead, I set out to show women that we can all eat in a totally free and fulfilling manner – without watching every calorie or cataloging every bite.

Through my work running the nutrition department of an outpatient eating disorder clinic, I became more and more certain of my calling to create positive change for women battling food and body image demons.

And as I helped my clients break through their own restrictive and/or destructive patterns, I became more and more accepting and loving of my own body. Once I had my own daughter, I knew I’d never turn back from doing this work.

Hello there!

I’m Karen Diaz, and my path to freedom from food obsession has been an intensely personal journey.

I saw very early in life how an eating disorder could destroy an individual, their relationships, and an entire family. My very best friend in high school struggled with severe anorexia, and my college roommate battled bulimia.

And as I helped my clients break through their own restrictive and/or destructive patterns, I became more and more accepting and loving of my own body. Once I had my own daughter, I knew I’d never turn back from doing this work.

We can all live free and unencumbered by body shame and food regret!

It all begins with recognizing that you are worthy – right now, just as you are.

I can’t say enough about Karen Diaz. She will change your life.

I have struggled with food my entire life and it became completely out of control about 5 years ago. I gained 80 lbs and tried everything I could to lose the weight. Diets, weight watchers, worked with a personal trainer, etc. The problem was I was only treating the symptoms and not the cause. The only thing I was learning was what to eat which I already knew. I know what foods are healthy. I was missing the bigger picture.

Karen moved me past the diet mentality and helped me look deeper at the root of the problem. I had so many “a-ha” moments working with Karen and want others to have the same experience. It’s an amazing feeling to not be thinking about food constantly or to place my self worth based on what I eat. It’s unbelievable how much time and energy I have gotten back. She is amazing!!

I am having a hard time writing this because words don’t express what Karen did for me. Karen saved my life, or I should say Karen taught me how to save my life.

I started sessions with Karen when my eating disorder was full blown, and I was very ill. My eating disorder took over my life. Karen stood by my side and guided me through all the baby steps of my nutrition along with tips of wisdom that opened the door to my recovery.

Karen has been a consistent tool in my recovery. I have never encountered a nutritionist with so much knowledge and in-depth guidance.

Karen’s professionalism and education are outstanding, but her ability to convey her messages made all the difference to me, and I am truly grateful.

I’m going to try to summarize what working with Karen did for my life. I say “try” because it may be impossible to describe what a different person I am today. In all areas of my life. This is about food, yes… but it’s so much more. I feel like a giddy little girl most days, and (!!!) have all the tools I need to live my life the way I always thought I could. My husband summed it up looking at me one night as I was talking to him about something (I can’t even remember what it was now) and he just shook his head and said jokingly, “I am so in awe of you these days… like, who are you?!”

Looking back, any of the concerns of “will this work for me” “is it a good investment” etc. were irrelevant because immediately after committing to the work, I could see that Karen was in this 100%. More if possible. She was going to meet me where I was and work through it with me no matter what as long as I was open to the work. And I was open to it most definitely. So, if I wanted it, it was mine.

There was no way I could fail. And that was an awesome way to feel. In fact, now that I think about it – that’s pretty much how I take on anything these days: with inevitable success. Sure, trip-ups are going to happen – but the thought of it doesn’t paralyze me anymore – because I just have to show up, do the work, and be open to the good stuff. And by the “good stuff” I mean the journey.

I am so thankful for Karen and her work. It’s a gift. Having gone through the program, it’s hard to put the value of it into dollars… I would pay it 10x over – no question.
